Happy happy New Year! And welcome back to all ASH families in our second semester of this topsy-turvy year. We at the PTO hope you all had a relaxing and rejuvenating winter break and we look forward to planning a variety of fun and social activities in the near future.
Upcoming PTO Events
Mon., Jan. 17: Raffle Tickets on Sale for International Festival Baskets
Our annual International Festival will be happening in virtual format this year, but that doesn't mean it won't be HUGE! At least 17 countries and 2 clubs from our international school community will be presenting their unique cultures to you on Saturday, January 29th. A great way to get the most out of the experience is to buy raffle tickets to win one of 25 amazing country-themed baskets, to take home and enjoy in person. Raffle tickets are €5 each, or €20 for a pack of five tickets. They will be available for sale on the PTO website. Hurry up and buy yours today!
Mon., Jan. 17: MMN Meeting CANCELED
Mon., Jan. 24, 9:30: Monday Morning Networking, 'Feeling Your Best' (VIRTUAL)
If these days of darkness are bringing you down, know that you are not alone. So many of us find ourselves cursing that alarm clock going off under a night sky and yearning for a bit of sunshine. Join this meeting for some much-needed social connection and a candid discussion of self-care and wellness. We will also include a review of healthcare in the Netherlands and will be here to answer any questions you may have. As our first meeting of the semester is canceled, we especially welcome new families to come with questions about settling into life in the Netherlands and to share any tips. Follow this link to join!
IMPORTANT: From January 18th, parents of all children aged 5-11 will receive letters of invitation to make Covid vaccination appointments for their children. Two child-doses of BioNTech/Pfizer will be offered. Find out the details HERE.
What to do on the Weekend?
Yes, we're in a lockdown. Shops and hairdressers are allowed to open again, until 17:00 each day. Unfortunately, restaurants, museums, and cinemas remain closed, at least until January 25, when the situation will be reviewed.
At least NATURE is always open! One of my favorites is Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen, a large dune-and-forest nature reserve located between Noordwijk and Haarlem. It has a wide variety of paved and dirt walking trails, along the waterways or all the way to the beach. The children will delight at seeing herds of fuzzy-horned, spotted deer coming close to the visitors. There are so many trails, be sure not to get lost. There are also several entrances to the park, but this one is the most convenient. So put on your parka and get out there!
