The PTO Update

October 24, 2021

IMPORTANT REMINDER!

Trunk-or-Treat wristbands are only on sale until TUESDAY, October 26th by 6 pm. Purchase yours right now HERE. All children attending the event need a wristband. Adults do not need one, but please bring your ASH badge. Purchased wristbands will be distributed to the homeroom of your oldest child on Friday.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

You can help make Trunk or Treat more fun and memorable for our families by volunteering to help run the event. We are looking for helpers who can direct guests, check wristbands, and run games. Do you have a high schooler who needs volunteer hours? Do you want to attend Trunk or Treat but are the parent of older children who won't be going? This is the perfect opportunity to be a part of the event! Sign up today HERE.

PUMPKIN CONTEST!

You bought your PTO pumpkin, now it's time to carve it and compete for a prize. Snap a pic of your very best carved pumpkin and submit it to ptovp2@ash.nl by November 1st. All the pics will be posted on Facebook and you can use your "likes" to vote for the winner. Don't include your names or faces in the pictures to keep them anonymous. We can't wait to see your skills!

Upcoming PTO Events

Mon., Oct. 25: IN PERSON Monday Morning Networking "Distinctly Dutch," 9:00 am

Begin to feel more comfortable in your Netherlands life by finding out what makes Dutch people tick--from their unique expressions, to their birthday traditions, to what makes them some of the happiest people in the world! This event will revive what Monday Morning Networking is all about--connecting with other parents to chat, commiserate, share experiences, and build friendships (while drinking coffee and eating cookies)! Our meeting room is upstairs in the ABF building: Ammonslaantje 1, 2241 BP Wassenaar. You will need to wear a mask and fill out a health form upon arrival.

We can't wait to see you IN PERSON!!!!!!

Sat., Oct. 30: Trunk or Treat

Candy fanatics are welcome between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Don't forget your wristbands and your costumes!

Mon., Nov. 1: MMN Flower Bulb Basket Workshop, 9:30 am

You've seen the tulip fields in the villages north of Wassenaar blazing with color every spring. But did you know that these farms are not cultivating and exporting flowers, but the bulbs? Get in on the bulb action by learning how to plant and cultivate them so you can enjoy your own tulips year after year. This workshop is run by a local family farm and is only €30. Sign up HERE today!

Wed., Nov. 3: Virtual PTO Meeting, 10:15 am

The year is already going by so quickly, and a lot of PTO events still need to happen. The International Festival will be put on in January--and needs a lot of volunteers--plus various other events that will benefit from your input. Join the meeting to find out what we're up to! Find the link on the Events Calendar.

Community Events

Wed., Nov. 3: ASH Parent Book Club (second meeting), 9:00 - 10:00

The second installment of the wonderful, counselor-led book club will take place virtually at this link. Don't worry if you missed the first meeting. If you have acquired the book and wish to participate in the discussion about the well-being and happiness of our children, don't hesitate to join! Sometimes talking to other parents can make all the difference in getting through the rough patches of parenthood. See what the experts have to say! This book is available in paperback on Amazon.nl or download the e-book from Paagman.nl.

What to do on the Weekend?

Japanse Tuin: Today through Sunday, Oct. 31st, 10 am - 4 pm

Did you know that the Hague has its very own Japanese Garden? Getting in is tricky because it is only open 8 weeks out of the year. You're in luck, though! It is open this week until Sunday the 31st. Autumn is the perfect time to discover this historical, moss-covered wonder as the Japanese maples are showing off their full color-spectrum. The garden is snuggled in the heart of Clingendael, which is itself an expansive woodland-park-playground-estate in which to lose yourself for an afternoon. Clingendael also features a tearoom, and a beekeeper who sells his own honey (you can't get honey more local than the plants you're standing next to!) Click to find out more about visiting the Japanese Garden.

Sun., Oct. 31: Halloween op De Fred, 2 pm - 5 pm

Don't put away those costumes immediately after Trunk or Treat! On Halloween Day itself, get dressed up again and go for a stroll on The Fred shopping street (Frederik Hendriklaan, 2508 EB The Hague). There will be face painting, spooky photos, and a scavenger hunt for kids--a great way to practice their Dutch words! Check out all the details:
