Sustainability Corner

International Day of Clean Energy (Jan. 26) - highlights the need for more sustainable energy sources. We still mainly depend on fossil fuels to generate electricity and heat, which results in nearly 90% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

What do we NEED to do? Invest in renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency plug air leaks, improve insulation (wall, floor, and ceiling), solar panels, heat pump for hot water, solar water heating, smart radiator valves, window upgrade, hybrid heat pump, air conditioning (for heating too), heat pump with underfloor heating.

Parent Volunteers Needed

ASH is looking for parents to share their study, professional, and life experiences with grade 11 students on February 26, March 4, and March 11. There is a particular need for speakers on March 4 and 11. The goal is to have as much diversity in study and professions as possible!

Grade 11 students are at a key time in their high school learning, reflecting on how they can take who they are as people and put it into the world in their studies and career choices. These talks will help students prepare for their life after ASH journeys. Please share your interest here by Friday, February 2.

Student-Run Activities

Valentine's Day Parents Night Out - High school students participating in the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Academy to Nepal this year are organizing a fundraiser. Parents can enjoy an evening out and take advantage of child care on Valentine's Day, February 14, from 18:00-21:00. Sign Up to plan a fun night for yourself and your children! Questions? Email alegaguirre@ash.nl

St. Baldrick’s Event - A group of 8th-grade students are organizing a community-wide St. Baldrick’s event on March 14. Any community member can sign up to shave their head or cut their hair to donate it (30 cm minimum) to people battling cancer. The funds raised will support cancer research and treatments at Princess Maxima Center for Childhood Cancer in The Hague. The event is being organized in memory of Mrs. Sarah De Mooij-Segal and in honor of those members of the ASH community whose lives have been affected by cancer.
