The PTO Update

May 28th, 2022

Upcoming PTO Events

Mon., May 30th, 11:00: Monday Morning Networking End-of-Year Brunch

Whether you are a devoted MMN attendee, a newcomer looking to get to know us for next year, or a biweekly newsletter reader who just hasn't made it to any events yet, you are warmly invited to our End-of-Year Brunch. At Strandpaviljoen Sport, a casual eatery on Wassenaar Beach, we will get together to tighten those social bonds before everyone flies away for summer. We will share our gratitude and goodbyes to our departing MMN team members, and welcome our new team, ready to line up a packed calendar of fun and interesting events for next year. Come one, come all! Please RSVP though, so we know how many to expect.

Address: Wassenaarseslag 29, 2242 PG Wassenaar

Wed., June 1, 8:30-9:30: Final PTO Meeting of the Year

It's time for us to wrap up a successful year that saw us gradually bring the PTO back to in-person events. Now we will start getting ready for next year, during which we hope ALL events will be live and in-person; perhaps there will be some new events as well. We are going to establish our organization's new Bylaws and introduce our new team. If you have ever thought about being a part of what we do, this is the meeting for you to attend. With absolutely no pressure to volunteer or commit to anything, you can learn about our organization, and think about how you would like to contribute. We will meet in the UE Atrium directly after drop off. See you there!

Upcoming Community Event

Tues., May 31st, 6:30-7:30pm: Counselor-Parent Workshop--

Gender Identity & Belonging at Home

Families of all backgrounds are warmly welcome to this interactive event, facilitated by Dr. Emily Meadows, LGBTQ+ Consultant for International Schools. Parents and guardians are increasingly aware of conversations around gender identity in our school and community and, however well-intentioned, may feel they need more information to talk about it with their children and young adults. Understanding gender development, as well as effective means to affirm and support children of all genders, builds confidence for more constructive discussions, and nurtures parent-child relationships. This session offers a researched-backed understanding of gender development, with an emphasis on identity and belonging, and provides a facilitated environment in which to explore this topic with your own family members and others in the ASH community. The workshop will be held in the MS library and refreshments will be provided.

There will be free child care for anyone under the age of 10.

More information about Dr. Emily Meadows can be found here: https://www.emilymeadows.org/.

And now, Frances, your friendly newsletter writer, is signing off for the season. I sincerely hope you had a wonderful school year and that your Dutch life gets more enjoyable and more fulfilling with each passing week. I look forward to see you all at this week's events, and if we haven't met yet, please take a moment to say Hello. You will also see more of me next year as I will be taking on the role of PTO President. My team and I hope we can deliver a valuable parent experience next year and we are always looking for volunteers and ideas. Want to get in touch? Email me directly at ptopres@ash.nl. Now revel in these last three weeks of school; soak up the Dutch sun while you can; and enjoy your break! Until August xoxo
