I'm gonna go ahead and declare it, while knocking on wood, the Warm Weather is Finally and Truly Here! Living in The Hague and Wassenaar, we are so fortunate to be near beach, beach, and more beach, so don't feel bad if you find yourself plopping in the sand multiple times a week. I'm sure you won't find the kids saying no to yet another afternoon on the strand, so embrace it! Yes, you will find sand in your home. And yes, you are not alone in struggling to get your family to bed when the sun is staying up well after 9 pm. But this current Dutch climate is just too perfect not to enjoy. I hope you see you out there!
The PTO wishes to give a big THANK YOU to all the shoppers who made our Spring Market a success. We were delighted to see so many of our community members helping out our local entrepreneurs. We look forward to making this an annual event!
Upcoming PTO Events
Mon., May 16th, 9:00: Casual Coffee with MMN
Now that we're winding down the school year, we are relaxing the MMN whirlwind and giving you all a chance to simply come out and socialize. We will gather tomorrow at the lovely pancake house in the woods at Meijendel (Boerderij Meyendel). We will chat, drink coffee, perhaps eat a pannenkoek. No pressure to do anything but kick back in good company. See you there!
Mon., May 16th: Last day to send in theme suggestions for International Festival
We want next year's International Festival to be a big, joyful affair, reflecting YOU, the international community of ASH. What slogan or topic do you think would make a great theme for the International Festival? Send in your ideas--they don't have to be polished--to ptointfestival@ash.nl. All ideas will be discussed and voted on. Let's hear from you!
Mon., May 23rd, 13:00 pm: High Tea at Hotel Des Indes with MMN
This is a very special opportunity to experience the famous High Tea service at the gorgeous, historic Des Indes hotel, like a 19th-century aristocrat. You will taste gourmet sandwiches, fresh scones, and delectable pastries, along with selections of tea. Only 10 seats are open, so buy your ticket this instant by clicking HERE.

Tues., May 31st, 6:30-7:30pm: Counselor-Parent Workshop--
Gender Identity & Belonging at Home
Families of all backgrounds are warmly welcome to this interactive event, facilitated by Dr. Emily Meadows, LGBTQ+ Consultant for International Schools. Parents and guardians are increasingly aware of conversations around gender identity in our school and community and, however well-intentioned, may feel they need more information to talk about it with their children and young adults. Understanding gender development, as well as effective means to affirm and support children of all genders, builds confidence for more constructive discussions, and nurtures parent-child relationships. This session offers a researched-backed understanding of gender development, with an emphasis on identity and belonging, and provides a facilitated environment in which to explore this topic with your own family members and others in the ASH community. The workshop will be held in the MS library and refreshments will be provided.
There will be free child care for anyone under the age of 10.
More information about Dr. Emily Meadows can be found here: https://www.emilymeadows.org/.
What to Do on the Weekend?
Museum Voorlinden
Right in your backyard is an exquisite display of modern art in a classical garden setting. The tiny yet spectacular Museum Voorlinden is a quirky oasis of modern/contemporary art pieces and installations for you to enjoy on a quiet afternoon. Visitors of all ages will come away with a favorite exhibit, and may not be able to tear themselves away. Once you're back outside, you can flop onto the perfectly manicured lawns or munch a sandwich at the terrace restaurant. If you want to fill up with even more art, plan a visit to Voorlinden's second property, the Clingenbosch Sculpture Garden, where massive art structures are scattered throughout a vast, forested estate. Clingenbosch is only open on Thursdays in the summer, so buy your tickets well in advance. Find all the info here: https://www.voorlinden.nl
