Upcoming PTO Events

Mon., Mar. 28th, 9:00 am: MMN Field Trip to Sligro

One of the benefits of being an ASH member is your access to Sligro, the big-box wholesale shopping chain of the Netherlands. Come along with MMN to discover this store's Leiden location, containing 75,000 products, both food and non-food. There are holiday treats, cheese, wine, produce, fish, meat, paper products, toiletries, and much more. RSVP here!

Mon., Apr. 4th, 10:00 am: MMN Walking Tour of The Hague Centrum

If you haven't been to your local city yet, what are you waiting for? If you are waiting for a friendly group to go with you and show you around, here is your chance. We will walk you around the main city center, pointing out sights, shopping areas, and useful services. We will top it off with a pleasant lunch in the indoor shopping street, The Passage. Meet at Etos across from Den Haag Centraal Train Station. Riding the bus? A group will ride together from Wassenaar. Get the details and RSVP here!

Mon., Apr. 11th, 10:00 am: MMN Field Trip to Keukenhof Tulip Garden

Another must-do while you're residing in the Netherlands is the famous tulip-dedicated botanical garden, Keukenhof. It's open in the spring for the tulip-blooming season, and guess what? That time is now! You will be bowled over by the vast quantities of tulips in every color imaginable, plus unusual shapes and sizes. There is also a windmill, a tulip shop, and a wide variety of eating options. We dare you not to spend the whole day there. Buy your tickets now!

Upcoming Community Events

Wed., Apr. 6th, 9:00 am: Parent-Counselor Book Club

There is plenty of time to catch up with the amazing counselor-led book club. The next virtual meeting is April 6th at 9:00 am. Understand the power of feelings and engage in meaningful discussions about it. There is no pressure to be caught up to a certain page at any meeting, so read at your own pace and come to listen, learn, and share your thoughts. The book is available on Amazon, Bol, or you can download a free digital copy at this LINK. To join, email lkohlenberg@ash.nl.

Mon., Mar. 28th, 12:30-2:30 or 6:30-8:30: Intro to Visible Wellbeing Workshop

As part of ASH's "Being Well, Doing Well" initiative, the ASH Family Wellbeing Hub will be hosting several virtual workshops on "Visible Wellbeing." In this workshop you will have a chance to assess your own family's wellbeing and plan appropriate steps for improving it using the six SEARCH wellbeing pathways. It is also an opportunity to seek support and learn about available resources. Sign up HERE. Additionally, check out the new Family Wellbeing Hub, full of activities, ideas, and resources to help your family be their absolute best!

What to do on the Weekend?

Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp)

This is simply a wonderful zoo. It is large for a Netherlands zoo, and quite brilliantly designed so that visitors can view animals from numerous different points, giving the animals notably spacious enclosures. There is a wide variety of species, too, from polar bears to panthers, plus an indoor rainforest and a full-sized aquarium! Now is the time to be outside, so plan on spending a whole day here! Don't forget to leave time for the playground! Buy tickets online at https://www.diergaardeblijdorp.nl/en/.

The Mauritshuis Museum

You have to go to this museum for two reasons. First, it has a small yet breathtaking collection of essential Dutch artworks, including several Rembrandts and the famous Girl with a Pearl Earring by Vermeer. The second reason is the building itself: a small former palace with wallpaper, fireplaces, and room designs you will salivate over. This museum is truly the heart of art in the Netherlands, so it is worth your time. It is also quite small, so if you don't want to haul the kids (or yourself) around all day, you can see it all in an hour or two. Afterwards, pop into a terrace café on the Plein for a relaxing lunch. https://www.mauritshuis.nl/en
