Cynthia Mulder
Since 2000, Mrs Cynthia Mulder has been the owner, director and qualified language teacher of the language school Dutch for Expats®.
She has a broad experience in teaching adults in The Netherlands, along with the 14 years as an expat and working as a language instructor of both Dutch and French in 4 different countries. She started teaching Dutch at ASH in 2016.

Dutch for Expats absolute beginners level 1 (0 -> A1-)

This Dutch course is meant for students with no knowledge of Dutch. In this absolute beginners course we are going to work with course book "Totaal", an elementary course for foreigners with a higher education background. This text and exercise book comes with downloadable audio materials and extra teaching materials will be handed out by your teacher. The objective of this program is to acquire a good knowledge of every day Dutch. The emphasis of the lessons, therefore, will be placed on speaking and on listening skills. This course will bring you from level A0 to A1- (Common European Framework).
What to expect?
Chapters 1-5 of "Totaal": How to introduce yourself, spell your name, address etc., the Dutch alphabet, the numbers, currency amounts, the days/months/seasons, telling time, (grocery) shopping, going to a restaurant.
And for the grammar: verbs and word order, how to make sentences, how to pose questions, articles, plural forms, opposites. And not to forget: Dutch culture and traditions, conversation and pronunciation. Course materials: “Totaal” course book 55 euros, payable to the instructor. Free downloadable audio materials.
This course includes homework and self study.
The last lesson of this course will be held outside the classroom (fieldtrip) to practice the Dutch we learned.
After having completed this absolute beginners level 1 course, it is possible to continue with the beginners+ level 2 course starting at ASH in September 2020 (level A1- -> A1).
Dutch for Expats® beginners+++ level 4 (A1 -> A2-)

This Dutch course is for students starting on level A1 and brings you to level A2-. We will work with course book "Totaal" chapters 12-15. The book comes with downloadable audio materials and extra teaching materials will be handed out by your teacher.
This course covers: the weather, housing, clothing, touristic trips in the Netherlands, how to ask the way, how to make a telephone call in Dutch, Dutch holidays and politics, body parts, health, make a doctor’s appointment.
And for grammar: Practising the past tenses, the use of “er/waar/daar/omdat/want” and "toen/als/dan" conversation on level A1+, pronunciation. And not to forget: Dutch culture and traditions, conversation and pronunciation.
Course fee is € 295, course materials are not included in the course fee. Price of the course book "Totaal" incl. downloadable audio materials is € 55. The teacher will bring the course books at the first lesson.
This course includes homework and self study.
After having completed this beginners+++ level 4 course, it is possible to continue with the pre-intermediate course starting at ASH in September 2020 (level A2- -> A2).

Dutch for Expats® Dutch Book Reading Club, level A2 and up
4 sessions on 4 weekday evenings

February, March, April and May 2020

€120 for all 4 sessions or €40 per session
Dutch book reading on intermediate / advanced level (A2 and up). We discuss Dutch novels, short stories, poetry and children’s books.
What to expect: Students read a Dutch book (title advised by the teacher who provides a list with questions to prepare fort he Book Club session). Discussion about the book in Dutch (level A2 and up).
Suggestions from the students. Days and times of the sessions are flexible.
Titles for the Spring course will be known latest beginning of January 2020.
Course fee is € 120 for 4 sessions (possibility to sign up for individual sessions, € 40 for a session).
Course materials are not included in the course fee.
